What this is

The Cabin Class is a scored directory of premium trains and of river and expedition ships, and their cabins. For each cabin it sets out what it costs, what the fare includes and how it compares with the alternatives, then gives a score out of 10. It answers one question for one train or ship after another: which cabin, and is it worth it?

We never take bookings. When you are ready to book, you book with the operator or a travel agent directly.

How the scores are made

Each cabin is scored on space, dining, the journey, comfort and value. Entries are researched and scored automatically from cited sources: the operator’s own pages for facts such as the fare, the beds, the bathroom and the balcony, and published reviews and press coverage for judgements such as noise or food. Every fact links to its source; if no source supports a fact, we leave it out.

Entries are checked before they publish, and the checks are run again when an entry is updated; each cabin page shows the date they last ran. The full method, including every check, is on How we score.
