The review
Excellence Class turns the Glacier Express into a long, unhurried lunch, with a window seat for everyone, a five-course menu with paired wines, champagne and a concierge. Your luggage is carried to and from the platform, which takes much of the effort out of the day. The views are the same as from First Class, and at CHF 874 full fare you are paying CHF 536 more for food, drink and service. It suits travellers who see the meal and the attention as the point of the trip.
For
- Every seat is a window seat, in two-seat bays across a table
- Five-course menu with paired wines, champagne and unlimited soft drinks included

Against
- CHF 874 full fare, more than two and a half times the First Class price
- The views are the same as from First Class
- Photography is harder, as the windows are sealed and the vestibule is used for service
- Only runs on the full Zermatt–St. Moritz journey
