The review
The Grand Suite turns a night on the Orient-Express into something closer to a hotel stay: a separate lounge, a double bed, a marble shower room, a butler and private car transfers at each end. It is the most practical choice on the train for anyone who wants their own shower and room to move. There are only six, and for two people the fare runs well past £24,000 for a single night.
For
- Separate lounge and sleeping areas, with a double or twin bed
- En-suite marble bathroom with shower and toilet
- 24-hour butler, free-flowing champagne and the option to dine in the suite
- Private car transfers on arrival and departure
Against
- Over £24,000 for two people for one night at 2026 fares
- Only six on the train, so availability is limited
- Wardrobe space is limited, according to reviewers
- Reviewers report noise and movement at night, as in every cabin
How it scores
Five scores out of 10, weighted into the overall. How we score
- Space 25% of score
- 8.0 out of 10
- The six Grand Suites have separate lounge and sleeping areas, and reviewers describe them as unusually spacious for a train while noting limited wardrobe space. 1234
- Dining 20% of score
- 9.0 out of 10
- Free-flowing champagne and the option of private in-cabin dining sit on top of restaurant-car cooking that a CNBC reviewer called genuinely stellar. 14
- Journey 20% of score
- 8.0 out of 10
- Restored 1920s carriages and Alpine scenery from a private lounge sofa make the ride the event, though an afternoon departure means much of the route passes at night. 564
