The review
The Suite is the cabin most couples will want on this train: a private marble bathroom and a double or twin bed, without the bunk ladder or the walk down the corridor. Meals, wine and transfers are the same as in the Historic Cabin, so the extra money buys privacy and sleeping comfort rather than a different experience. At roughly double the cabin fare for a single night, it is a considered splurge.
For
- Private marble en-suite bathroom with a mosaic floor
- Double or twin beds, with the bed folding into a sofa by day
- All meals with sommelier-selected wines and station transfers included on Paris–Venice
Against
- Roughly double the Historic Cabin fare for the same route, meals and service
- Reviewers report noise and jolting at night
- The main suitcase is in the baggage car and not accessible until arrival
- Formal dress expected at dinner; jeans are not allowed at any time
How it scores
Five scores out of 10, weighted into the overall. How we score
- Space 25% of score
- 6.0 out of 10
- Four Suites share a carriage against eight Historic Cabins, with a bed that folds into a sofa by day, though a reviewer calls them only slightly roomier than the cabins. 12
- Dining 20% of score
- 8.0 out of 10
- Suite guests eat the same multi-course restaurant-car meals cooked under a Michelin-starred chef, with sommelier-selected wines included. 32
- Journey 20% of score
- 8.0 out of 10
- Restored 1920s carriages, a bar car with live music and Alpine scenery make the ride itself the event, though an afternoon departure means much of the route passes at night. 435
